5 Tips To Boost Your Memory

Like other parts of your body, your brain needs physical and mental exercise, along with particular nutrients, to boost the power of memory. However, there are more ways that can actually help you have a strong memory.
Here are some tips that can help you improve your memory.

1. Sleep well
To have a good memory, it is extremely important to give your brain proper rest. The amount of sleep you get affects your brain's ability to recall recently learned information. Therefore, lack of sleep delays storage of memories and makes you forget sooner. Disturbed sleep also affects negatively your creativity, problem-solving skills as well as critical thinking skills. Additionally, sleep deprivation boosts the formation of beta amyloid, the toxic protein that clogs up your brain. So try to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day to feel much more rested.

2. Exercise more
Physical exercise is the cure for absolutely any problem, and memory is no different. A little exercise may yield big mental benefits and it is the best memory aid of all. That is because doing exercise regularly increases alertness and oxygen supply to the brain, thereby keeping problems like memory loss at bay. Besides, the physical act can encourage the growth of new brain cells in the parts of your brain responsible for memory. So the more physically active you are, the greater your cognitive performance.

3. Eat right foods
Memory superfoods help protect your brain from harmful free radicals. They include antioxidant-rich, colorful fruits and vegetables. You should also make sure to consume fish high in omega-3 fatty acids that can fight artery-damaging inflammation and blueberries that have the power to create new pathways for connection in the brain. However, you need to watch your food intake closely because eating too much can double the risk of memory problems in old age.

4. Drink in moderation
If you drink wine in moderation, it can help you with your memory. According to researchers from Oxford University, half a glass of wine a day can improve cognitive ability and memory. That is because resveratrol found in wine, particularly red wine, can enhance the flow of blood to the brain.

5. Quit smoking
According to researchers from Northumbria University, smoking can cause significant damage to your memory. Meanwhile, a study at King's College London also revealed that middle-aged smokers performed less well on tests compared with those without the tobacco habit. So stopping this bad habit is a good way to enhance your memory.

How Some Simple Tips Can Help Memory

ne the most common sign of aging is the inability to remember things or memory loss. This kind of issue usually comes with emotional turmoil for the person affected, and their family. Here are some useful tips to help you deal with your own memory loss.

You can improve your memory by playing brain-challenging games. This would be equivalent to your exercising in order to keep the muscles in shape. With regular brain exercises and fun stimulation, you can enjoy greater mental elasticity and improved memory, along with many other helpful benefits. Crossword puzzles, brain teasers, and word searches are great games that can boost your memory.

Using mnemonic devices is an excellent strategy for improving your ability to retain new information for a longer period of time. Mnemonic devices aid the memory in a fashion similar to how shorthand helps writers. You associate memories with pre-arranged symbolic maps, which makes retrieving the memory much easier.

Just as you need to keep your muscles fit through exercise, so do you have to keep your mind sharp through constant use. Puzzles are a good way to keep your brain active.

Rid yourself of unpleasant or negative thoughts to better your memory. People who suffer from depression are stressed out or have a negative outlook on life don't remember things as well as people who are basically happy. Ask your doctor to suggest techniques to reduce stress.

3 Fun Activities To Improve Memory Easily

One activity you can consider doing is called mnemonics. This is the use of association to help you remember certain things that you would most likely forget. Many people are currently using this methodology to help them remember things more easily, and one of the larger groups of people who are using this technique almost naturally are students. This particular demographic tends to associate the things that they need to remember into song lines or create stories or poems around them. Not only is it fun, but it stimulates the mind to remember usually boring facts and figures in a different, more interesting way. This is just one of the more interesting methods that you can use to trick your mind to retain and recall certain information. One of the things you will realize is that you will never forget song lyrics and this is just one example of how the power of association can help you.

The other method that you can use of course is to use the power of sound and music. This is quite different from using the method of association. There is no association here but actually, the use of sound as a sort of tool to help you remember. There has been some scientific study to the fact that if there is music running in the background, particularly music you like, the brainwaves in your mind will actually be moulded into the wavelength that allows your brain to remember more and learn better. The type of music doesn?t really matter, but it has to be the sort of music that you like and this is really the key thing when it comes to trying to help to improve your memory with fun activities that will not seem to drain the very lifeblood from your mind.

Last but not least, you need to consider playing word games and memory games with other people, and this is the most effective way that you can use the factor of fun to add a little spice to your learning methods. This is actually one of the memory therapy methods that psychologists use to help their patients who have gone through trauma and help them remember better. When stimulated, the brain will be much more attuned to remember things, and this is the kind of thing that you need to have to enable your memory banks to act more efficiently and for you to stop forgetting things. Having fun games where you can interact with one another and help each other remember, and adding a little competitive element into it will certainly help you to remember all the things that you will normally forget and have some fun in the bargain.

These are the three main methods that you can use to improve your memory easily and the level of fun that they have will be a boon to help you remember things more succinctly. No one said that trying to improve your memory should be an activity that is dull and boring, and sometimes you need to ditch the routing and join the party to remember more.

Memory Improvement Techniques from a Grand Master of Memory

In 1995, Mark Channon created a memory improvement game show for BBC1 called Monkhouse Memory Masters and came sixth in the World Memory Championship, ranking 3rd in the world as one of the first International Grand Masters of Memory. In the competition there was a one-hour event in which you had to memorize the order of as many random digits as possible; he correctly remembered 744 numbers sequentially. He also successfully memorized the order of a newly shuffled pack of cards in 1.5 minutes. Now Mark share's his memorization skills through his websites, personal coaching and live events at Memory School and markchannon.com.

It all began in 1990, when a friend loaned me an audio version of a memory course. I became fascinated with memory improvement and honed my memory techniques for the next four years. By 1994, while working as an actor in a West End production of 'Crazy for you', I came up with an idea for a television show called Memory Masters in which I trained 30 contestants in the art of memory improvement techniques. Shortly after I took the idea to a game show production company (Action Time) and within 10 months it had a weekly slot on BBC1 and was hosted by Bob Monkhouse.
Memorization is traditionally associated with learning 'tricks', but I wanted to change that. Over the years my focus has been working on the application of memory improvement techniques and mind mapping in everyday life to enhance every skills like memorizing names, helping your kids with education or progressing your career in business.

Although I don't refer to this training as a new method I do believe that this is 'A new way of thinking' for most people, focusing on the application of memory improvement techniques in the real world through harnessing your natural imagination and association skills.
This is a very exciting time for us. For years memory improvement techniques have been misunderstood and have never been properly utilized by the masses. I guarantee you if kids were taught to think this way at school the effects would be awesome. Our goal at Memory School and markchannon.com is to support all your memory improvement needs and open your mind to a new way of thinking about and using memory techniques which makes their application infinitely more useful.
